Hong Kong’s Food Safety Ordinance will increase the level of confidence that consumers have in the safety of food products on the market, according to international food policy experts, EAS. The organization’s food and health policy manager, Levie Cequena, explained that the ordinance, which became applicable this month, involves a new registration scheme and record-keeping requirements that work towards more control of the movement of food products. The purpose of the ordinance is to safeguard public health through a more effective food tracing mechanism, which encourages systematic documentation of the movement of food products and can identify the origins of food safety incidents earlier
