The Indian functional food and functional ingredients market is "booming", reports NutraIngredients.com.
Citing figures from Frost & Sullivan, the nutraceutical business magazine claims that "swathes" of Indian consumers are adopting functional ingredients and functional food in order to gain health benefits associated with their consumption.
Among the products finding favour are omega-3-enriched drinks, buttermilk and probiotic yoghurts.
NutraIngredients.com adds that this growth is being achieved in spite of the fact that the population is generally less aware of the nutraceutical business than in Western cultures.
"The market has good scope of growth considering the positive growth of the Indian food processing industry in terms of new investments and new product development," the website quotes Frost's senior director for south Asia and the Middle East Mamta Wadhwa as saying.
Frost & Sullivan recently revealed that it is adding a new functional food, functional ingredients and consumer nutritional habits tracker to its portfolio to detail trends in the market over time in the coming months.
